Metropolis
Dir. Fritz Lang (1927, IMDb #117)

Fun fact: Metropolis was such a hit in Fritz Lang's native Germany – and in particular with Adolf Hitler – that Joseph Goebbels himself summoned Lang in an attempt to recruit him to direct Nazi propaganda films.
"I said, Mr Minister, do you know, for my father – far, far, centuries back, peasantry and so on – Aryan, okay. But my mother, she was born Catholic but she has Jewish parents. And Goebbels said 'Mr Lang, we decide what an Aryan is'."
– Fritz Lang, interviewed by William Friedkin.
Wisely, Fritzy boy AKA the Lang-meister skipped town and emigrated to America.
So for all you ethnic artists out there, here's the moral of the story:
Work hard, master your talent, create works of singular scope and incomprehensible beauty. Change the world with your art, and one fine day, you too might be upgraded to an honorary Nazi.
