Pulp Fiction
Dir. Quentin Tarantino (1994, IMDb #8)
Quentin Tarantino’s casts – with the exception of Reservoir Dogs (1992) – are some of the most ethnically diverse out there, with what appears to be the holy trifecta of ethnic blocs: Black, Latino, and East Asian.
But hold on, we hear you muttering to yourself: ‘I don’t remember any Asians in Pulp Fiction. There aren’t any, are there?’ Well, yes. Karen Maruyama is the lone protector of the cinematic fort, for her sublime portrayal of Gawker #1.
Well played, Tarantino. Well played.
But it is maybe a good thing that Quentin marches to the beat of his own woke drum.
After all, imagine a line like, "When you came pullin' in here, did you notice a sign out the front of my house that said 'dead beige person storage'?"
