Ah, how the beige wheel of cinematic influence turns.

Over sixty years ago, Akira Kurosawa directs the beige classic Yojimbo (1961), which is so good that it’s re-made by Sergio Leone in his classic, A Fistful of Dollars (1964), starring screen legend Clint Eastwood.

Thirty years after that, Eastwood directs the classic, Oscar-winning revisionist Western Unforgiven (1992), which is so good that it’s re-made with an all-beige cast in the Japanese-language film of the same name: Unforgiven (2013), starring Ken Watanabe.
